Strifeshadow

How do I configure Strifeshadow to work with a router?

Strifeshadow requires the use of two network ports in order to function properly. One is used for communication with the GameSpy servers in order to list games and communicate with the chat servers. The other is used during gameplay to receive messages from the other players.

In order to use Strifeshadow from behind a router, you will need to configure ports 6500 and 3423 to direct all external UDP traffic to the machine used to play Strifeshadow. Consult your router's documentation for more information on changing this configuration information.

Another alternative, which is less secure, is to setup the machine used to play Strifeshadow as the "DMZ host" through your router. Consult your router's documentation for more information on changing this configuration information.

With proper configuration, Strifeshadow can work with almost all routers. We have performed testing with router products from Linksys, Wingate, Winroute, and others. The Windows ME and Windows XP versions of Internet Connection Sharing should work without any additional configuration.
